Does school kill creativity?

they love you to do the things in the curriculum and in the things their supposed to teach but otherwise they don't want you to do those things, they're all up for you to make music but if you started a club (for instance) teaching someone an instrument then they get annoyed and wont let you, well in my school anyway. xx

But would you say that our schools nurture it in the same ways that our schools nurture our reading and writing ability? That is what I view Robinson as saying. I realize we're coming at this from different angles, you teaching a core subject and me an elective, but I see a great many students whose abilities are squandered in the typical classroom. They are not able to tweak their words, as you say, and while they can reach a certain level of success, they will never surpass it and they must have another way to compensate for their so-called mediocrity. Our education system tells them that if they cannot be creative in the way we tell them to, they are failures, doomed to working a minimum-wage job. That isn't what we want for our kids, is it?
